The government funded initiative called Support Scheme for Renewable Heat (SSRH) has been announced in Ireland. It is similar to the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) and has been brought in to assist Irelands 2020 renewable energy targets.
The primary objective of the support scheme for renewable heat is to increase the level of renewable energy in the heat sector. Ireland has a goal of 12% renewable energy for the heating sector and is currently just 6.8%
The support is expected to be paid for a period up to 15 years. It will be based on useable heat output in renewable heating systems in new installations or installations that currently use a fossil fuel heating system and convert to using the following technologies:
- Biomass heating systems
- Anaerobic digestion heating systems
We can also expect a grant of up to 30% to support investment in renewable heating systems that use particular types of heat pumps.
The scheme is expected to pay a tiered system in a c/KWh basis. It is expected to be split into six tiers with the limits and proposed tariff rates detailed below.
